Are school librarians and endangered species.

Well isn’t that a loaded question…

After watching the five experts (so eloquent and so succinct in their comments) I think the main take home message is that despite the pressures of budgets, cuts and ignorance teacher librarians are not extinct but they are in a state of metamorphosis.  As Michelle Luhtala points out – if you think that the worth of a TL is a derivative of the circulation of print media then you are ignorant of what a TL actually does!

I also agreed with the idea that we might end up being called something else but basically we are purveyors of information, literacy, connectedness, educators of digital literacy, mentors and guides in the information landscape and as such we are not endangered but we might be re-badged! (Oh and the list above is only the tip of the iceberg as to what TL’s do but I am trying to summarise!)
